2019 was the best and most awe-inspiring CES to date. Thousands of companies pulled out all the stops to wow the crowd of over 180,000 attendees including more than 63,000 from outside the U.S. While no one was surprised that autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, smart home innovations, drones and 3D printers were once again the crowd favorites, there were countless gadgets that impressed and amazed.
Below is a roundup of some of my favorite tech products from CES this year that I had a chance to test out. Everything reviewed below is now available to consumers.
Ultimaker S5 3D Printer – Ultimaker is the leading professional solution for printing functional prototypes, manufacturing tools and end-use parts. Thanks to Ultimaker’s recently announced partnerships with more than 30 global chemical companies, global enterprise customers can now do product prototyping and testing in the same specific material used in mass production. The Ultimaker S5 has fully integrated hardware, software and materials configuration, as well as optimal settings alignment, designed for professional users that require full geometrical freedom capabilities, industrial-grade material properties, repeatability, high uptime and an integrated workflow. This is a serious 3D printer for people who are serious about 3D printing. https://www.dynamism.com/c/3d-printers/ultimaker
Razor E-XR High Powered Long-Distance Electric Scooter – This new model is Razor’s most powerful, longest running, electric scooter to date, making it ideal for longer commutes, hills and everyday use. With speeds of up to 15 mph and a run time of about 80 minutes of continuous use, this is the must-have electric scooter. It includes front and rear lights, 3-stage LED battery indicator display and a battery charger. https://www.razor.com/
AVITA 14” Clarus Laptop – Laptops from Avita are new to the U.S. market, but you’ll be hearing a lot more about this brand in the near future. This 14-inch lapper has a beautiful design and comes with a much lower price tag than comparable laptops. It looks like a MacBook and does everything a MacBook does, but for a much more palatable price. The battery could definitely be stronger, but I was impressed with the power of this small computer that is as light as a feather (3.45 lbs). The Avita Clarus has a lot of ports and pretty good display. https://avita-americas.com/product/clarus/
Cat S48c Smartphone – The Cat S48c is an ideal smartphone for rugged use. It’s built tough for the job site or campsite and has the same durability you would expect from Cat equipment. It can withstand drops, dust, and can even be submerged in water. With a tough screen and long battery life, it’s just what you need if you can’t help but be a little rough with your phone. The model tested was an unlocked unit for Verizon with a 64GB ROM flash and 64GB RAM. This phone is waterproof up to 4 ft so don’t hesitate taking it on your next boat trip. https://www.catphones.com/en-us/cat-s48c-smartphone-verizon/
OWC USB-C Travel Dock – This makes portable connectivity simple for your notebook computer, no matter where you are. The OWC USB-C Travel Dock delivers incredible versatility providing five ports of connectivity and power in a surprisingly tiny package. Handl New York iPhone Cases – Handl went all out at CES 2019 with the launch of their new iPhone case. Jamie Foxx was on hand at the Mansion at MGM Grand in Las Vegas to unveil the new, slick iPhone case that has a patented elastic brace on the back to serve as a way to effortless hold your phone as well as serve as a stand for the device in both portrait and landscape modes. Mark Cuban and Damon James also showed up at Handl’s elegant reveal party. Accell Powramid Air Power Center and USB Charging Station – The Powramid Air Power Center and USB Charging Station features 6 adapter-spaced outlets. Its round, flat design is perfect for placement on a desk or conference room table, providing easy access to multiple power outlets. The two USB charging ports feature smart chips to provide a combined 2.4A of fast charging for USB powered devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and portable music players.
Monster Illuminessence – This was certainly a more sober year at CES for Monster Products than in past years. There was no Monster-sponsored concert and the annual press conference was an honest assessment of the future of this company. However, one “bright” spot for the company was its announcement of its foray into smart lighting. This easy-to-use color-changing LED Lighting System makes the fun and excitement of professional quality LED lighting significantly more affordable. Illuminessence is ideal for parties, holiday decorating or just everyday lighting fun. It lets you create instant mood and ambience, without the hassle of complicated devices and software set-up. Monster Illuminessence is easier to setup and use than Bluetooth or WiFi products on the market. The new Monster Illuminessence line includes kits for large rooms, small rooms, light strips, bulbs, and longer power extension kits. https://monsterstore.com

Catalyst Impact Protection Cases for Samsung Galaxy – The world’s most protective and stylish smartphone case manufacturer has come out with a line of super protective Impact Protection phone cases for the new lineup of Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10 Plus. The introduction of the S10 case series comes just weeks after the Catalyst Impact Protection case was put through a rigorous public trial by CNET live from CES in Las Vegas. The case survived a 20ft drop, face down on a cracked tile floor, followed by a two-pound steel ball bearing being dropped on the case attempting to break the phone. Of the 10 participating smartphone cases, Catalyst was the slimmest case and the only one without a screen protector that survived the ball bearing test. https://www.catalystcase.com/

Minelab GO-FIND Metal Detector – Minelab is the world leader in metal detector technology and I had the chance to check out the GO-FIND 11 Metal Detector at the 2019 CES in Las Vegas. Michelle Meyers of Minelab served as a panel participant at CES and discussed the future of technology in kids’ toys. The GO–FIND 11 is a perfect gift for kids and adults, especially those who are eager to try something new. the world’s lightest high-performance metal detector. Weighing only 2.2-pounds, the ultra-lightweight handheld detector boasts state-of-the-art Minelab technology advanced enough for the serious gold prospector and a treasure hunter with an easy-to-use design that appeals to detectorists of all levels, kids and beginners alike. At only $99, this metal detector is impressive and certainly doesn’t compromise on performance. https://minelab.com
eero Home WiFi System – I first encountered eero a few years ago at CES and I’ve been a fan ever since. Like millions of others, I was sick and tired of WiFi dead spots, buffering and having to constantly reboot my router. Rather than buying a new router or getting range extenders (which don’t work), I invested in an eero Home WiFi System. eero uses multiple access points and TrueMesh technology to cover every nook and cranny of your home in powerful and reliable WiFi. It also works with your existing modem and any internet provider to deliver a consistently strong signal everywhere you need it. With the eero app, you can set up your system in under 10 minutes, share your network, set parental controls to pause the internet, and run speed tests whenever you want. https://eero.com/
SecureDrive BT – No surprise whatsoever that the SecureDrive BT was named CES 2019 Innovation Award Honoree. It’s the world’s first and only hardware encrypted portable data storage device that is user-authenticated via a mobile device (Android/Apple) using DataLock mobile apps. The device is remote management ready with unlock, remote wipe, geo-fencing, and time fencing. It features Host/OS-independent and work with and across all devices supporting USB ports. If you need to protect your data, the SecureDrive BT is the way to go. I only use these now and definitely feel safer. https://www.securedrive.com
